King Kong vs Godzilla: a 1600 HP Porsche 911 Turbo S and a 1570 HP Nissan GT-R line up for an epic Duel
by Dim Angelov, onToday’s dose of drag racing comes from the YouTube channel Officially Gassed where some of the craziest modified cars (and sometimes bikes) go head to head, to see who’s the fastest. It’s always interesting to see what the car scene is like in different parts of the world and here we have the U.K.’s fastest Porsche 911 Turbo versus one of the U.K.’s fastest Nissan GT-Rs, both of which pushing around 1,600 horsepower.
There’s only one condition – both cars need to run street tires since they are streetcars. However, the Porsche 911 Turbo is equipped with Toyota 888R semi-slicks at the rear, which could give it an advantage. In addition, both cars are running on race fuel, in order to extract maximum performance.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is tuned by ES Motor and features a fully-built, 4.2-liter stroker engine, custom ES Garret G35-900 turbochargers, ES billet manifold, and fuel system, Dodson clutches, and Syvecs ECU.
All this is part of ES Motor’s “1,200 kit”, which in this case, gives the Porsche 1,600 horsepower (1,193 kilowatts) and 996 pound-feet (1,350 Nm).
At 3,527 pounds (1,600 kg), the 911 Turbo is the lighter of the two cars.
On the other end, we have the JM 1,500 Nissan R35 GT-R. It comes with a fully-forged 4.1-liter stroker engine, Garret GTX35-82R billet turbochargers, Albins Monster gear set, and a Syvecs ECU.
All this translates into 1,570 horsepower (1,171 kilowatts) and 1,254 pound-feet (1,700 Nm).
However, at 3,858 pounds (1,750 kg), the GT-R weighs more.
The cars go head to head in three races – a quarter-mile drag race, half-mile drag race, and finally, a third-mile rolling race.
The GT-R is a car known for its immense grip. However, the Michelin street tires just aren’t able to cope with so much power and torque, and the R35 spins. Eventually, both cars manage to do a proper run, which results in the Porsche reaching the quarter-mile in 9.12 seconds at 165.62 mph (268.14 km/h), while the Nissan took 9.92 seconds at 166.15 mph (267.39 km/h).
As for the 0-60 mph (97 km/h) times, the 911 Turbo managed a 2.28-second sprint, while the GT-R took 2.31 seconds, despite having street tires all around.
Moving on to the half-mile race, where the GT-R’s traction issues continue. Being limited by the street rubber, Godzilla fails to deliver all it can against the 911. The Porsche manages 14.13 seconds at 200.48 mph (322.64 km/h), while the R35 could only muster 14.27 seconds at 192.58 mph (310 km/h).
The rolling race also goes to the 911 Turbo, but something interesting happens. Godzilla manages to stop the “bleeding” after gaining traction, thus stopping the Porsche from pulling away more. That said, the ES Motor 911 Turbo was still the first to cross the line, granting it a third consecutive win. Regardless of the result, two of the greatest cars went up against each other, and, without a doubt, both drivers had an epic day. Swipe up to get to the video and enjoy the races.
