It’s not every day you get to find a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 VT for a price like this
by Dim Angelov, onLately, we have been turning a lot of attention towards Lamborghini. Something that was made inevitable with the revival of the iconic Lamborghini Countach. The Gandini-designed Countach was produced for 16 years before it was finally replaced by the Lamborghini Diablo. Although the latter did not manage to achieve quite the same status as its predecessor, it was better in every measurable way. With this in mind, a very clean example of the Diablo just popped up for sale, at a surprisingly low price.
Now, we have to clarify, the term “low price” is quite relevant, but considering the asking price of other examples of the Lamborghini Diablo, this really looks like a bargain. The car is currently listed for sale on Bring-a-trailer and the current bid is $265,000. Keep in mind, there are only two days left before the car is auctioned off.
This particular car is finished in Monterey blue and is a late 2001 6.0-liter VT. This is the last production year of Diablo before the Murcielago came.
The 6.0-liter V-12 produces 549 horsepower (404 kilowatts) at 7,100 RPM and 457 pound-feet (620 Nm) at 5,500 RPM. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transaxle.
VT stands for Viscous Traction and indicates that the car features all-wheel drive. It’s actually a modified version of the Lamborghini LM002 4X4 system. It also features two limited-slip differentials. All this means 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in around 3.4 seconds, wheel the top speed is 208 mph (335 km/h).
The Blue “Lambo” was acquired by the seller from a Los Angeles dealer, in 2016. Since then, the car has resided in St. Louis and has received $50,000 in service. This particular car features the 18-inch cast magnesium OZ wheels and the optional rear wing, which is adjustable. Other equipment includes:
- Electronically adjustable coilover suspension
- Cross-drilled and vented Brembo brakes - 365mm front, 335 mm rear
- Front-axle lift
- Automatic climate control
- Blue-weave carbon-fiber exterior and interior accents
- Aftermarket stereo
- Adjustable bucket seats finished in cream leather
More importantly, the car has 19,000 miles (30,557 km) on the odometer, of which 4,000 were added by the seller. The blue Lamborghini also comes with clean CarFax, clean Missouri title on the seller’s name, and invoices for the last five years.
The 6.0 VT is the very last incarnation of the Lamborghini Diablo and was introduced back in 2000. It featured restyled body and most body panels were made out of carbon fiber, with the exception of a steel roof and alloy doors. The 6.0 VT featured a more streamlined design, with the turn signals now being flush with the body and the taillight frames being finished in body color. Of course, there’s the engine, which now displaces 6.0 liters instead of 5.7 on the older VT.
The staggered factory wheels are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tires, measuring 235/35ZR18 at the front and 335/30ZR18 at the rear. The later Diablo VT models (like this one) feature a front track, 2.8 inches wider, which frees up more space in the footwell, allowing for wider pedals.
The 6.0-liter V-12 has been slightly improved, as it now features a 32-bit ECU and coil-on-plug ignition. In addition, the catalytic converters have been bypassed. Some of the work done on the car includes a new battery, replaced cooling hoses, spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, fuel filters, and oxygen sensors. All fluid changes were performed in December 2020.
A couple of notes from the seller include RPM fluctuation on cold starts between 1,000 and 1,100 RPM and the occasional blip of the check-engine light at low speeds, just reminding you that it’s still working. There are minor stone chips around the exterior, but nothing major. Overall, the car is well-taken care of and although not quite in showroom condition, it’s a clean example that only requires a bit of TLC. Once again, we remind you that the bid finishes in 2 days and currently it sits at $265,000.
