With a lap time of 1:32.96, the Mono R is almost 6 seconds faster than the LaFerrari
by Alina Moore, on LISTEN 02:56Back in 2015 a Ferrari LaFerrari with German racing driver Hubert Haupt behind the wheel became the fastest production car around the famous Red Bull Ring, Austria with a lap time of 1:38.95. The Italian supercar enjoyed the supremacy for six years, but things have changed. The king has been defeated!
During a recent Pirelli P Zero Experience, the Bac Mono R simply smashed the LaFerrari’s record.
With British racing driver Adam Christodoulou behind the wheel, the Mono R lapped the 2.7-mile circuit in just 1:32.96, 5.99 seconds faster than the Ferrari supercar.
Let’s take a look at the two cars, shall we? The Bac Mono R is powered by a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 343 horsepower. With a total weight of just 555 kilos (1,224 pounds), the Mono R has a power-to-weight ratio of 628 hp/ton. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 170 mph.
The LaFerrari has, of course, the power advantage. It is powered by a 6.3-liter V-12 engine combined with two electric motors for a total output of 963 horsepower. That’s 620 horsepower more than the Mono R! However, the LaFerrari loses the battle when it comes to weight: with 1,255 kilos (2,766 pounds) it weights 700 kilos more than the Mono R. This, of course, gives the LaFerrari a smaller power-to-weight ratio: "just" 599 hp/ton. The Italian supercar goes from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds and up to a top speed of 217 mph. Despite these big numbers, it still lost its crown!
Ian Briggs, BAC Co-Founder and Design Director, commented on the new record: “Another event, another lap record for Mono R – we’re absolutely delighted to be at the top of the leaderboard at such a stunning and iconic circuit. Back in the early stages of developing the car we said that no record is safe worldwide, and that’s certainly proving the case. R is an incredible machine and we cannot wait for the next giant to fall. Special thanks to our tire partner Pirelli for their excellent hospitality in Austria and giving us a chance to go for the record.”
From Austria, Bac Mono R is heading to Hockenheim, Germany where it hopes to beat McLaren Senna’s 1:40.79 lap record!
