A Dodge Challenger Might Be Intimidating, But Not To This Toyota Supra GR
Watch the Toyota Supra GR beat the living daylights out of the Dodge Challenger on the drag strip
by Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 02:55‘Sam CarLegion’ uploaded another drag race video on his YouTube channel, this time involving a Toyota Supra GR and a Dodge Challenger R/T. It isn’t exactly a fair race, to begin with. We do know the Supra would beat the muscle car even on a limp, but such dominance wasn’t expected. Take a look at it yourself:
The Supra Is The Winner Even On Paper
The Dodge Challenger in question is the R/T model with a naturally aspirated HEMI V-8 mill under the hood. It displaces 5.7 liters and puts out 372 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque.
Power is channeled to the rear wheels exclusively via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Toyota Supra GR, on the other hand, is powered by an inline-six turbocharged mill that displaces three liters. It makes 382 ponies and 368 pound-feet of oomph.
An eight-speed automatic gearbox powers the rear wheels here as well.
The Dodge Challenger weighs 4,200 pounds, which gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 0.089 hp/lb. The Toyota Supra, on the other hand, is almost 900 pounds lighter at 3,304 pounds, giving it a much better power-to-weight ratio of 0.116 hp/lb.
These Races Were As Lopsided As They Can Get
The first run was in Sport mode. The Supra got off to a cracking start and left the Challenger in the dust. The timings weren’t revealed, but this was an assault on the American muscle car. Well, it was never the favorite, to begin with, seeing the paper specs, but this was brutal.
To soften the blow a little, Sam suggested a rolling race which probably wouldn’t be as humiliating as this one. But, boy, was he wrong! The first rolling race was from 50 kph (31 mph) in Sport mode. At kickdown, the Supra went past the Challenger so quick and it looked like the latter just stood still there. But, to be fair, it wasn’t that far off at the finish line. They repeated the same thing again to see if it would make a difference, but it didn’t. So, a 3-0 clean sweep for the Supra GR over the Challenger R/T there.
Conclusion
As mentioned earlier, this wasn’t exactly unexpected or surprising, but a fun video nevertheless. It was quite a change of pace especially after seeing how a Challenger Hellcat drew one hell of a contest with a Stage 3 750-horsepower Roush Mustang.
