Can a mildly modified Audi RS6 Avant take on a fully-blown Pikes Peak American classic? Find out, below

It’s old school versus new school and American versus European, as a mildly modified Audi RS6 Avant take on a purpose-built, 1967 Pikes Peak Chevrolet Camaro.
Audi RS6 Avant
The Audi RS6 Avant is a proper Autobahn missile, even in stock form. Its 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 packs 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm), which allow it to reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.4 seconds. In addition, the RS6 Avant responds very well to simple mods, which this one has.
The car is “mostly stock” and yet, packs over 200 horsepower over stock. With an Eventuri intake, Akrapovic exhaust, basic bolt-ons, and a tune, the German station wagon makes over 800 horsepower. Even more impressive is the fact that the car still has stock turbochargers and stock gearbox, which is a ZF eight-speed automatic.
For 2020, the Audi RS6 Avant finally came to the US and there are already plenty of modified examples with some reaching 1,000 horsepower. And while 800 horsepower are still plenty, the car still weighs a whopping 5,300 pounds (2,404 kg).
1967 Chevrolet Camaro Pikes Peak
The classic Camaro has been heavily modified, to the point where it has almost nothing in common with the stock car. The car features an entirely new front section, after a crash at last year’s Pikes Peak. The body features crazy ground effects and radical openings, revealing much of the hardware.
The engine is a modified LS7 that features a billet intake, Brodix heads, CNP camshaft, and a Garrett G45 turbocharger. Mike – the owner of the Camaro – says it has been tuned down for street use and makes “only” 950 horsepower. The gearbox is a Sadev sequential with paddle-shifters.
At 3,200 pounds (1,451 kg), the Camaro is much lighter than the Audi. However, it’s rear-wheel-drive only and its Pikes Peak setup could make it tricky to launch.
The Race
The first of three races is head to head, at 1,000 feet. Audi jumps the start, but Camaro starts catching up mid-way. However, the track wasn’t long enough and the RS6 Avant drew first blood. The second race was from a roll and this time the Camaro beat the Audi by a few car lengths. The third and decisive race was from a dig, but the Camaro got a car length. This resulted in a very close last race, but the Audi still won, even if it was a photo finish. Watch the video below to see how the two cars stack up against each other.
