Why is the 2022 Morgan Plus 8 GTR special?
The first unit of the Plus 8 GTR is finished Yas Marina Blue - a paint that pays tribute to the Plus 8 ‘Big Blue’ race car from the 1990s.
You will notice that the Plus 8 GTS also features a high shoulder line - a feature that the automaker hasn’t used in any of its models in decades. The five-spoke center-lock wheels are also inspired by the Morgan’s Plus 8 race cars from the 1990s.
When compared to the standard Plus 8, the GTR version also features a revised rear end, front wings, and front splitter - all hand-crafted in aluminum. Unlike the other Plus 8 models, the GTR will also be offered with a fixed hard top.
The interior of the GTR is also pretty unique and it features new door cards, bespoke GTR dials, and optional carbon fiber racing seats and harnesses. Also, each unit will get unique graphics and a plaque denoting its number in the build sequence.
The Plus 8 GTR is also the most powerful Morgan ever. Under the hood, you will find the same BMW-sourced 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V-8 (N62) engine, but with a new engine tune and cannon-style twin-exit sports exhausts.
These changes have taken the output up from the usual 362 horsepower to a total of 375 horsepower.
There are no words on the performance figures just yet, but the standard Plus 8 goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 155 mph.
