Refreshed exterior, interior, and new tech additions make the 2022 Compass an interesting proposition

The 2022 Jeep Compass comes with exterior and interior cosmetic upgrades, and some tech features inside the cabin. This compass also comes with a new plug-in hybrid powertrain called the 4xe. Trivia: This is the first Jeep launch in Europe after incorporating it into the Stellantis umbrella.

2022 Jeep Compass Exterior
The 2022 Compass looks sharper and bolder when compared to the outgoing model. The signature seven-slat grille remains, but the bumper is redesigned. The company has come up with new LED headlights and daytime running lights in three different designs, depending on the trim. Things at the rear aren’t drastically different either, except for the flow lines, cuts, and creases.
The 2022 Compass will be available in five trims – Sport, Longitude, Limited, S, and Tralihawk. The Limited trim comes with 18-inch wheels, black bumpers, and other elements to make it look rugged. The S trim features 19-inch multi-spoke wheels with a metallic grey finish, body-colored bumpers, and so on. There’s also an 80th Anniversary edition which is the launch edition here. This special edition can be had in two exclusive colors – Mimetic Green and Urban Green. The standard color palette includes:

Off-Road Trailhawk Trim Is Impressive
The Trail-Rated Trailhawk trim takes the butch looks to the next level, courtesy of an exclusive grille, body-colored fog lamp bezels, a more prominent skid plate, and exclusive 17-inch wheels. The camera has also been moved from the lower air intake to the central opening to protect it while off-roading. It boasts an approach angle of 30.4 degrees, departure angle of 33.3 degrees, breakover angle of 20.9 degrees, and ground clearance of 8.4 inches.
2022 Jeep Compass Interior
The interior is rejigged with new 3D surfaces and technical details. There are new themes and upholstery options, including Nappa leather. New storage spaces around the cabin are a nifty addition. Jeep has also provided storage options for mini tablets and other knick-knacks around the gear lever. The gear lever itself is a new unit.
Jeep has made some significant changes in the tech department. Behind the steering wheel is a new full-HD 10.25-inch digital instrument display that’s standard on the S, Limited, and Trailhawk trims, and optional on the Longitude. The system is highly customizable with close to 25 configuration options spread across five menus.
The 2022 Compass also features new touchscreen systems all across the range. The base trims come with an 8.4-inch touchscreen whereas the higher trims feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Both of them run on the latest UConnect 5 system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Amazon Alexa is also available on certain trims. The bigger touchscreen system can be had with navigation with voice recognition.
2022 Jeep Compass Drivetrain
The Compass has a nice palette of engines in its lineup. They are offered in different flavors and power outputs to create a combination of five options for the customers. For starters, there’s the updated oil-burning 1.6-liter, Multijet II engine which makes 130 ponies at 3,750 rpm, an increase of 10 horses, and 236 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent exclusively to the front wheel via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Next in line is the 1.3-liter, turbocharged gas mill that is offered in two different states of tune. It churns out 130 ponies and 199 pound-feet of torque in one state and 150 horses and 199 pound-feet of twist in the other. Power is routed via a six-speed manual transmission in the 130-horsepower version and via a dual-dry clutch gearbox in the 150-horsepower variant.

The same gasoline engine is offered with a plug-in hybrid system as well, again with two different power outputs. You can opt for the one that makes either 190- or 240 horses. The torque figure in both the case is the same – 199 pound-feet. All the oomph hits the road via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The 4xe models, which is the hybrid equivalent of the 4x4 models, feature an 11.4 kWh battery pack and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. It offers an electric-only range of around 30 miles as per the WLTP cycle and can be run up to 81 mph without the internal combustion engine kicking in.
2022 Jeep Compass Prices
In the U.K., the current Jeep Compass starts at £27,125. The 2022 Compass’ pricing is not revealed, but we don’t expect a starting price beyond £28,000. In the U.S., the Compass starts at $23,915 for the 2021 model.
2022 Jeep Compass Competition
Ford Escape
For the sake of comparison, we’ll pit it against its U.S.-based rivals. The Escape has everything going for it, but it doesn’t come with as many engine options as the Compass and neither will it fulfill an enthusiast’s craving. is the frugal crossover that ticks all the boxes well, but is not an enthusiast’s vehicle. It comes with a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood that makes 181 horses and 190 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to the front wheel as standard via an eight-speed auto gearbox, but you can opt for the all-wheel-drive model too. The Escape comes with a host of drive-assistance systems, too, and has all the creature comforts you can ask for. And, the icing on the cake is the spacious cargo area. The Ford Escape was built from the ground up for the 2020 model, sharing no parts whatsoever with its predecessor, and it ranges between $25,000 and $36,000.

Honda CR-V
The CR-V needs no introduction and is one of the default choices in a potential customer’s list when shopping in this segment. The Honda CR-V comes with a feature-rich, practical, and spacious cabin. The cargo area is quite spacious, too. But, as is with its rivals, the CR-V also boasts of a lackluster engine. To make matters worse, it is mated to a lousy CVT. The 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine dishes out 190 ponies and 179 pound-feet of torque. On the flip side, it is quite fuel-efficient and will be light on your wallet. The Honda CR-V starts a little over $25,000 and goes all the way up to $35,000.
