What’s so special about the 2021 HPD Civic Si Race Car Prototype?
The new HPD Civic Si Race Car Prototype retains the essence of the Civic Si, but it received a major list of updates for both the exterior and the interior, but also for the drivetrain and the chassis.
Starting with the exterior, HPD wanted to give the Civic Si a more aggressive look.
It started with a race body-in-white and added front, side, and rear underbody spoilers.
A huge rear wing makes the car a lot more aerodynamic, and new bumper-mounted brake cooling ducts ensure better cooling.
The interior has also been modified to offer the best safety during racing. A roll cage was one of the first safety features added, but the new racing seats with HPD seat mounts also come equipped with a six-point racing harness. The car also gets a new aluminum steering wheel from OMP that can be quickly disconnected, a C125 center dash logger from Motec, and an MXP main display from AiM Technologies.
In its standard form, the 2022 Civic Si delivers a total of 200 horsepower. But the race car from HPD comes with a series of updates that will increase the final output. The only problem is that we do not know just yet to how much.
However, the updates announced by HPD include: a modified ECU, a new turbo-back dual-outlet exhaust, and a new, high-capacity aluminum radiator.
The car will also ride on a new set of 17-inch Momo wheels wrapped in 245/620-17 DHH Pirelli racing tires. The new wheels are combined with new 6-piston Superlite race calipers and 2-piece slotted floating rotors. As final updates, HPD is offering new Eibach race coil spring plus new inverted double-adjustable dampers from Bilstein.
A race car is supposed to be as light as possible, so the prototype from HPD foregoes a sunroof, soundproofing insulation, underbody coating, and seam sealer.
More details on this special Civic Si will be announced next week during its SEMA debut.
