• 2021 Ford Bronco V-8 VelociRaptor by Hennessey

The tuner has officially inducted the Bronco into its stable by plonking a V-8 engine under the hood

LISTEN 02:51

The only chink in Bronco’s armor is the missing V-8 engine under the hood. Although Ford matched the Jeep Wrangler in every aspect, dare I say, even better in some, the lack of a V-8 will be a deal-breaker for some folks. However, aftermarket tuners have grabbed on to this opportunity. PaxPower was one of the first companies to announce a Bronco V-8 and soon many companies jumped the wagon. The latest one to do so is Hennessey Performance.

Hennessey has announced that it will be building a VelociRaptor version of the Ford Bronco with a V-8 mill that will churn out 750 horses. This will be a limited-edition build and will cost around four-times the cost of a standard Bronco. Is it worth it?

What Makes The Hennessey Bronco VelociRaptor Special?

Hennessey is known for radical builds and has produced some mighty fast trucks and SUVs in the past. It even launched some six-wheel-drive concepts, like the ones based on the Ram TRX and the Ford F-150 Raptor. The latter is called the VelociRaptor, and interestingly, the Bronco receives the same moniker.

On the outside, the SUV will come with VelociRaptor front and rear bumpers with LED lights. ‘BRONCO’ grille upfront will be replaced with a ‘HENNESSEY’ one. The tuner will also add a new custom hood with a scoop. The standard wheels will be swapped in favor of a new aluminum set wrapped in upgraded off-road tires. A few Hennessey and VelociRaptor V-8 badges will be pasted all around the body along with some other livery. On the inside, the Hennessey Bronco will come with a VelociRaptor V-8 custom interior and embroidered headrests.

What’s Different Under The Hood?

Hennessey will equip the new Bronco with a 5.0-liter, V-8 supercharged engine that will make 750 horsepower.

Power will be sent to the wheels via Ford’s 10-speed automatic gearbox. The tuner has said that the Bronco will take just 4.5 seconds to sprint to 60 mph from a standstill. The other changes made to the limited-edition Bronco include:

  • Ford Wiring Harnesses & ECU
  • 3.0 Liter Supercharger System
  • Air-to-Water Intercooler
  • High-Flow Air Induction
  • Fuel System and Injector Upgrade
  • Stainless Steel Cat-Back Exhaust
  • Upgraded Off-Road Suspension System
  • HPE Engine Management Calibration

Hennessey will build just 24 examples of the VelociRaptor V-8 Bronco and they’ll all feature serial numbered plaques. You can have it in either a two-door avatar or four-door. The tuner has priced the V-8 Bronco at $225,000 a pop - that includes the price of the donor vehicle and all the mods, but not the shipping charges.
