This 2022 BMW 8 Series Prototype Is Hiding A Dirty Secret

The BMW 8-Series is getting a refresh for 2022, and we can see quite a few changes in these spy photos

Recently, we got some spy shots of the BMW 8-Series. The car shown is in convertible form, and is still under heavy camouflage. The Bavarian Gran Tourer has been in production since 2018 and now, three years later, it’s time for a refresh. The spy shots show us an 8-Series Convertible, running tests under heavy camouflage and, right away, we can spot a few noticeable changes.

We recently got some spy footage of a BMW 8-Series Convertible and despite the camouflage, we get a pretty good idea of how the revised version of the 8-Series would look like.

The most noticeable changes are in the front, where we see a new front fascia.

The lower portion is dominated by air inlets and the grille is expected to be slightly different. The headlights don’t seem to be touched at first glance, but a careful look reveals they are slightly slimmer than the current G15.

There are some changes to the rear too, although not as substantial. We see new LED patterns on the taillights and a slight change to the bumper. And then, there’s the fake exhaust tips, each of them hiding smaller dual exhaust pipes (sigh).

Bigger and squarer infotainment screen
It will be accompanied by software optimizations

The footage includes some interior shots as well. They reveal a slight change on the inside.

Actually, the only difference is the infotainment screen, which is now bigger than squarer.

This new design for the infotainment screen is expected to be accompanied by software updates. This means that the facelifted G15 model will not get the divisive big screen we are starting to see in the brand’s electric vehicles.

Still has fake exhaust tips
The rectangular exhaust tips hides the actual exhaust pipes, which are much smaller

There might be some engine updates as well, although it is too early to tell. We will get more details as the official introduction gets near. We expect this to happen sometime in 2022.

Born in 1992, I come from a family of motoring enthusiasts. My passion for cars was awoken at the age of six, when I saw a Lamborghini Diablo SV in a magazine. After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
