The folks at ‘The Fast Lane Truck’ conducted a drag race with not two, but five different pickup trucks. They had trucks across segments, starting from the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz, to the Nissan Frontier, the Toyota Tundra, and the Ford F-150 Raptor. This wasn’t a conventional race wherein you just had all five trucks go at it together. It was more of a gauntlet match wherein the winner of a race faced a new truck in the next round and the loser got eliminated. Sounds a little like Squid Game, doesn’t it?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder and Frontier Are Here - This Is What You Need to Know
Nissan has finally debuted the 2022 Pathfinder SUV and the 2022 Frontier pickup truck. Both the models have been long in the tooth, the latter especially, and were in dire need of more than just a refresh. After a long wait, the new models are here. Both, the Pathfinder and the Frontier, look mighty different from their present avatar. The vehicles come with a lot of changes, but the biggest news – the one that I was personally looking forward to – is that Nissan has dropped the CVT from the SUV in favor of a new, nine-speed automatic gearbox. How about that!

Nissan made a lot of changes to the last Frontier update, but there’s no denying that it’s still a 15-year old truck. The company recently teased the 2022 Frontier and it is expected to be the biggest change since its inception, especially in terms of aesthetics. The truck has proven its might in the past, but the styling is clearly dated and is probably the only reason for the Frontier’s dwindling sales. The 2022 Frontier is all set to debut on February 4, 2021, and here’s what you can expect from it.

2020 Nissan Frontier - Driven
Nissan Frontier is considered to be one of the best workhorses you can buy today. It never had any oomph factor and was happy being in its comfort zone as a work truck. It has remained pretty much the same for 15 years and Nissan never bothered to bring in a new generation because, well, why fix something that ain’t broken?
Given the long wait, everyone expected the next-gen Frontier to get a complete makeover inside out. The Japanese automaker still hasn’t brought out the new generation, but it decided to give us a glimpse of the future by plonking in a new engine and transmission in the same old body.
The new engine and gearbox come at a cost; the cost being $8,000. The starting price of the truck has gone up considerably and a lot of us were confused if it’s worth the hike or not. So, here’s our take on the 2020 Nissan Frontier that arrived at TopSpeed’s headquarters in the PRO-4X trim finished in a Blue exterior shade.

In 2017 Mecedes-Benz decided to enter the pickup truck market with the X-Class. However, the X-Class wasn’t a true Mercedes under the shell, but a modified third-generation Nissan Frontier, also known as the Navara in other markets. Mercedes’ concept was to offer a more premium truck in terms of looks and equipment, but it seems that it didn’t go really well. After only two years on the market, the X-Class was discontinued. But a new report claims that the German truck will actually live on as Nissan wants to use the modifications that Mercedes made to the platform on the next-generation Frontier.

If this scoop is true, then Nissan might fill the void created by Ford for not offering the Ranger Raptor here in the States.
The 2021 Nissan Frontier Could Get A Lot More Expensive
The Nissan Frontier is known for its rock-like build and reliability. The truck is over a decade old, but Nissan hasn’t really given it any new clothes or makeup over the years. However, the 2021 model is expected to bring about a lot of changes. Generally, such changes rarely command a significant price increase, and that seems to be the case with the Frontier.
According to a report from CarsDirect, the Nissan Frontier’s starting price will be increased by over $7,500! The 2019 Nissan Frontier starts at $18,636, but the 2021 model is expected to come with a starting price tag of $26,280. That’s an increase of almost 45-percent! But, why? Is it going to come with gold screws and bolts?

Developed by the Nissan Motorsports team in collaboration with MA Motorsports, the Frontier Desert Runner is teeming with purpose-specific upgrades that help enhance the pickup’s already impressive form and functionality. Nissan has yet to give any indication of potential production plans for the tricked-out pickup, but that could come soon if there’s decent enough demand for it. 2018 Nissan Frontier Sentinel Concept
The São Paulo Motor Show in Brazil is always a good place to find interesting models that don’t usually make their way to the U.S. Nissan is known for having a big presence in the event, and this year’s no different. The Japanese automaker brought the Frontier Sentinel Concept — we call it the Navarra here — to The Land of Drizzle. The Frontier Sentinel is a rescue concept truck is described as “sturdy enough to go on missions in the most extreme and remote areas.” In other words, it would make for a sweet ride in the U.S., provided Nissan makes it production-ready in the first place.
Small Pickups Fall Short of IIHS’ Top Safety Pick Awards
Modern trucks are vastly safer than older vehicles, yet the Insurance Institutes for Highway Safety continues to move the bar. As such, four variants of the most popular mid-size pickups fail to meet the independent agency’s highest rating for crash survivability and headlight performance. Eight pickups were tested, including both extended and crew cab versions of the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Frontier.
Of the eight trucks tested, four did not earn the IIHS’ best rating of “Good” in the front small-overlap crash test. These are the extended cab version of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, along with both cab configurations of the aging Nissan Frontier. The GM twins both earned an Acceptable rating, while the Nissan only earned a Marginal. The Frontier continued to score low in both the structural category and in the possibility of the driver sustaining lower leg and foot injuries. That’s not surprising considering the Frontier is 12 years old, having last been redesigned for the 2005 model year. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab earned a Good overall rating and a Good rating in each sub-category except for an Acceptable rating in potential lower leg and foot injuries. Even still, the Tacoma lacks any front crash prevention systems, excluding it from the IIHS’ Top Safety awards. Only the GM twins offer any such system, and even it only alerts the driver rather than stopping the truck, earning it only a Basic rating. Lastly, not a single mid-size pickup scored better than a Poor rating in headlight performance. It is understandable, though, as the IIHS only began testing headlights for the 2017 model year.

2017 Nissan Titan & Frontier Midnight Editions
Nissan is playing off the massive hype surrounding the total solar eclipse by introducing three new Midnight Edition trucks for 2018: the Titan, Titan XD, and Frontier. Not surprisingly, the trucks are blacked out from hood to hitch with black interiors and several popular add-on features included. Not only does this tie in perfectly with today’s celestial event, it complements Nissan’s huge success with the Midnight Edition treatment on its other vehicles, which are said to sell twice as quick as standard models.
Billy Hayes, Nissan’s division vice president for North America sales, said, “Following the tremendous response to the original Maxima SR Midnight Edition, we’ve created a complete portfolio of the popular blacked-out Midnight Edition look among our core Nissan sedan, crossover and SUV models. We expect the strong customer appeal to continue with the expansion of the Midnight Edition package to our Titan, Titan XD and Frontier pickups.” Nissan isn’t the only automaker doing well with special edition models boosting sales. Chevrolet is killing it with special editions like the Redline, Rally, High Desert, Custom Sport HD, RealTree, Special Ops, Alaskan, and Black Out editions. Oh, and Chevy also has its own Midnight Edition with a blacked-out appearance, too. Ram also plays the game, offering its Ram pickups with the Limited Tungsten, Subline Green, Copper, Night, Rebel Black, and Rebel Mojave Sand editions. Hayes followed up by saying, “A great custom look straight from the factory is what buyers really appreciate. We’re finding that buyers in the millennial age group especially are attracted to the Midnight Editions. Last year, Nissan was ranked as the number one brand for millennial purchases.”
Speaking of purchases, the Titan, Titan XD, and Frontier Midnight Editions will go on sale starting in the late fall of 2017. Pricing has yet to be announced. For the full details on the trucks, keep reading below.
Nissan Frontier Sales Jump 73 Percent in July
The 2016 Nissan Frontier might be the oldest midsize pickup in the U.S. these days, but that’s not stopping customers from buying them. Nissan announced the Frontier posted a 72.7 percent year-over-year increase in July sales. That’s impressive. July 2016 sales are listed at 7,244 units. That’s far more that July 2015’s number of 4,194. It’s a difference of 3,050 trucks.
Nissan sold an impressive 62,817 Frontier pickups in the 2015 calendar year, but is quickly catching up with 52,255 Frontiers sold in 2016 as of the end of July. That leaves a gap of 10,562 units before the Frontier outsells itself over 2015. And with five months left to go, the likelihood is extremely high.
The Frontier’s highest sale this decade came in 2014, with 74,323 units moved. While there’s a disparity of 22,068 units between the Frontier’s current 2016 sales and 2014’s total sales, it’s completely possible Nissan will surpass the mark. Divided out, Nissan would only have to sell 4,414 Frontiers per month before December 31.
Looking holistically, June 2016 posted even better year-over-year sales. The Frontier sold 84 percent better than it did in June of 2015, with 8,166 examples moving off the lot verses 4,437 units in June of 2015. In fact, every month of 2016 has shown year-over-year gains from 2015 – though none as drastic and June and July’s numbers.
It’s in comparison to its rivals at Toyota and Chevrolet that Nissan’s sales look weak. Toyota sold 179,562 Tacomas in the 2015 calendar year while Chevy moved 84,430 Colorados. Still, there are folks buying the Frontier despite its age and relative lack of sophistication. We’ll jump into the reasons why below.

2018 Nissan Frontier
Nissan USA has been busy over the last couple years developing the new Titan XD and “standard duty” Titan pickup trucks. However, once the Titan rolls into dealerships for the 2017 model year, Nissan’s attention will turn to the Frontier.
Currently in it second generation, the Frontier has been around since 2004 with nearly imperceptible changes beyond a minor facelift for the 2011 model year. A spartan interior and bare-bones powertrain make the current truck feel old, yet somehow charming in its classic style. Nevertheless, time marches on and the next Frontier is headed our way.
Ironically enough, Nissan already has its next version of the Frontier. It’s called the NP300 Navara and has been on sale since the 2015 model year. Of course, the Navara isn’t’ offered in the U.S., but countries around the world enjoy its larger size, modern aesthetics, and car-like interior. The U.S.-spec Frontier is the last hold-out for the second-generation body.
All signs and sense point to Nissan offering a U.S.-spec version of the NP300 Navara, with tweaks to comply with safety and emissions. That means the global Navara might get new powertrain options before coming stateside. What those are, it’s hard to say, but expect them to be more powerful and efficient over the Frontier’s current 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 4.0-liter V-6.

The Nissan Frontier soldiers on another year with little in the way of changes. In fact, the only updates to the aging Frontier are three new color choices and a moon roof option in the Crew Cab SV model. Beyond that, the midsize pickup is the same the day it received its last refresh in 2009. Well, except for a change in price that’s just as subtle.
However Frontier is still a competitive truck, despite several new entries in its class. A fully boxed frame, two engine choices, two- and four-wheel drive options, and game-changing cargo management gadgets in its bed. What’s more, the Frontier still offers a good ole manual transmission with nearly all of its trim levels, including the rugged PRO-4X off-road edition. You won’t find that in the Toyota Tacoma or Chevrolet Colorado.
Don’t expect the Frontier to muddle on looking neglected by Nissan. Rumors are already swirling about the truck’s replacement. Word has it Nissan will turn its focus on the Frontier once the 2016 Titan XD and 2017 Titan are on the market. If that holds true, we could see a new Frontier by 2018 or so – about the same time the Colorado, Canyon, and Tacoma could be getting facelifts. Still, that’s only speculation.
So lets take a look at what the current 2016 Frontier has to offer and the slight changes Nissan gave it.

What proceeds next isn’t really surprising, but the outcome is certainly unpredicted. As the driver approaches the blatantly upset gator, it begins to hiss – a warning sign to anyone with sensibilities. It’s apparent the man though the gator would be intimidated by the truck’s size and slither away. Well, that’s not what happened.
I won’t spoil the fun of the video, but rest assured the man will be looking for new Frontier parts.
He shouldn’t have any trouble finding those parts, as those first-generation trucks were rather popular. Nissan began building the Frontier in 1997 as a replacement for the venerable Hard Body. The initial design lasted through 2003 with a mid-cycle refresh happening in 2001.
Power came by way of two engine options: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.3-liter V-6. Neither option was overly powerful, though Nissan did offered a dealer-installed supercharger option on the V-6. Available with both engines were a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Of course, 4WD was an option as well.
Despite the media’s unloving reports about the truck when it was new, Nissan sold nearly half a million first-gen Frontiers, proving that folks loved its rugged looks, honest capability, and fair price. Perhaps the Frontier would have sold even more had Nissan equipped to truck to be gator proof. Then again, that’s sort of a niche quality.
The news keeps on coming with the Mercedes pickup. This time, it’s an official statement from the automaker in regards to an alliance with Renault- Nissan. The two will collaborate in designing and building both the yet-unnamed Mercedes truck and the next-generation Nissan NP300.
When it comes to the mid-size truck market, what was once a booming segment has dwindled in recent years to just a small handful of models. Since its introduction back in 1997, the Nissan Frontier has garnered strong sales that have permitted the truck to survive when names like Ranger and Dakota couldn’t. The latest generation of the Frontier arrived in 2004, and Nissan is replacing it with an new model later this year, but how well has the current model aged in the last 10 years?
Nissan sent me a decked out, off-road-ready Pro-4X model to test so I could find out. I have tested other Frontiers over the last few years, but this model comes loaded with more performance, equipment and luxury than any other Nissan truck I have driven. With an upgraded suspension, 4WD, a locking rear differential and chunky tires, this Frontier was just begging to flogged.
And flogged it was. Over the course of my time with the Frontier it tackled daily commutes, farm work, off-road shenanigans, and the snow and ice that came from one of the worst winter storms my current home state of Tennessee has seen in more than a decade. I think I have a pretty solid handle on just how well this machine performs.

Nissan has accompanied its teaser photo of what we assume is the 2015 Frontier with a teaser video ahead of its June 11th unveiling. The drop of the new teaser video is confirmation that Nissan has high expectations for the midsized pickup truck. That’s not a surprise considering that the Frontier has been in dire need of an upgrade for years now.
The teaser photo didn’t do much in showing the truck in all its glory. Unfortunately, the video isn’t any better. There are some quick cuts to the pickup, but you’re either going to have sharp eyes or quick hands to pause the video to get a better look at it ahead of its unveiling next week.
Still, give credit to Nissan because it’s done a good job building up the hype surrounding the pickup’s debut, boldly proclaiming that it has undergone over 40,000 quality control tests covering a distance of 1 million km in real-world conditions.
Those are serious numbers if Nissan isn’t exaggerating them. Should they be true, you can bet that expectations surrounding the new truck will go to another level.
Time to prove the hype, Nissan.

Nissan has just dropped a massive teaser for its upcoming 2015 Frontier midsize pickup truck. Seen on the automaker’s Instagram feed, the image shows what looks to be a crew-cab, short-bed truck with Nissan’s familiar grille perched between headlights and LED daytime running lights. The social media site also reveals the truck’s debut date of June 11th.
This is big news for midsize truck fans, as the current Frontier as been around, basically unchanged, since 2004. The new truck will also likely usher in a newly redesigned Xterra SUV, which it shares much of its architecture.
Other noticeable changes include a pronounced roof rack, bold ridges along the edges of the hood leading from the headlights to the A-pillars, chrome-surrounded lower fog lights, and a front bumper featuring moderately high approach angle. The truck will likely continue using a body-on-frame design in order to compete with General Motors’ upcoming Colorado and Canyon twins.
What’s more, Nissan may further compete with the 2016 version of the GM trucks when they debut the first diesel-powered, U.S.-spec midsize truck in recent history. Back at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, Nissan showcased a 2.8-liter, inline four-cylinder, Cummins turbo-diesel engine. Nissan even admitted back then the concept truck was created to gauge the public’s response and interest in future truck products. I know we sure sang its praises.
Diesel engine or not, an updated — if not all-new — Nissan Frontier is a welcomed sight. With General Motors and now Nissan joining the midsize truck category for 2015, we’re greatly anticipating other manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon. Toyota, Ram, and Ford have been put on notice.

Thanks to a few new players in the market, the midsized truck battle looks be reviving. News about GM’s new mid-size trucks getting diesels have also stirred up a frenzy, starting with Nissan.
What you see here is the Frontier Diesel Runner, a “concept” truck built to gauge consumer interest in diesel-powered, midsized trucks. The truck itself is barely changed from the production line, but features a 2.8-liter, I-4 turbodiesel built by renowned engine builder Cummins. The Cummins/Nissan partnership isn’t new, however, as the pair have plans to power the next-generation Nissan Titan with a 5.0-liter V-8 turbodiesel in 2015.
The Frontier’s diesel engine is expected to produce around 200 horsepower and more than 350 pound-feet of torque — all while increasing fuel efficiency by 35 percent over the standard 4.0-liter, gasoline V-6 engine. It’s backed by a ZF-sourced 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission. The new engine-transmission combo is expected to tow and haul roughly the same as the conventional gasoline Frontier.
Nissan and Cummins did have to modify the truck slightly to get the powertrain nestled within the engine bay and transmission tunnel. Saving room and further development, this frontier lacks the optional four-wheel-drive and added complexities the system brings to a driveline.
It’s very unlikely the Frontier will be sold with a diesel option in its current generation. Nissan is hard at work developing the second-generation Titan pickup, and will likely turn its attention it the Frontier once development is competed there. We expect a new Frontier won’t be far behind the new 2015 Titan. If Nissan chooses to include a diesel as a powertrain option, it’s likely to happen then.

There are a few obligatory things in any attention-grabbing car commercial. They are a desirable car, sweet cool music, and the optional good looking woman, and by optional we mean mandatory… Well, Duxcoat, a water and stain repellant company, decided to show us exactly how confident they are in their Nano paint treatment using the mandatory woman and one not-so-mandatory addition. For those that don’t know what Nano paint treatment is, it is a sealant that prevents water and stains from sitting on your car’s paint or windshield.
Onto the video… So, you have a rather attractive and (ahem) “well-equipped” woman jogging down an old dirt road in a white shirt, a Nissan Frontier, and a puddle of water. Hmm, can you do the math? If not, call in any former member of a fraternity and he’ll explain it to you (white shirt + water = see-through shirt and lots of hoops and hollers). In to ruin the fun is a well-fed man with upper torso equipment not quite as intriguing as the running woman’s.
All three converge in front of the mud puddle, leaving the woman and man soaked. Every male TopSpeed reader is now thinking the same thing “Woo Hoo!!” Well, there is a “wardrobe malfunction” in this commercial, but only with one of the two folks in white shirts. The other one is wearing a shirt coated with… Duxcoat! We’re not going to tell you which one, but we’ll leave it at this; at a certain angle, man boobs look a lot like those found on a female, so be careful with the staring on this one. You might give people the wrong idea.

2005-2010 Nissan Trucks and SUVs prone to Tranny Failures
Usually when there is a transmission failure, it is something internal that, after many years of dutiful service, is expected to start breaking down. However, Nissan has announced that some of their best selling trucks and SUVs (2005-2010 Nissan Frontier, Xterra, and Pathfinders) are experiencing radiator leaks that are finding their way into the components of their automatic transmissions. This leak is causing premature wearing of the automatic transmission that warrants replacement often at less than 100,000 miles. The New York Times reports that even after Nissan extended warranties on the effected models by 5 years/50,000 miles (for a total warranty coverage for 80K miles/8 years) owners still reported that "the radiator issues have affected the vehicles transmissions, causing premature failure...Lance Wiggins, Technical Director of the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association points out ’what’s happening is the radiator cooler tanks are rupturing, forcing coolant into the five-speed automatic through the transmission cooler lines." Motor Trend also points out that for many of the owners of these vehicles (particularly the older models) are beyond the extended warranty. If the transmission fails, they will have to put forth a substantial investment for a new one. Nissan says they "would cover transmissions damaged by coolant, as long as they met the extended warranty guidelines." No warranty, no fix.
Although Nissan says "only a small proportion of models are affected," we are perplexed by their actions. They seem to be doing enough to belay a lawsuit, yet don’t seem to be real concerned about maintaining a loyal customer base, which is a real pity because we love the ruggedness and the utility of the Nissan trucks and SUVs.
A few months ago, Ford struck a deal with Original Wraps to create custom vinyl wraps for the Ford Fiesta. Now, it looks like another manufacturer is looking to dig in to the custom vinyl wrap pie.
Nissan’s jumping on-board and unlike Ford, they’re receiving custom wraps for a number of their models. The first Nissan vehicle to receive a customized vinyl wrap is the Nissan Cube, which will be followed by the Nissan Juke, and then the Nissan Frontier.
More products are expected to be added in the future, possibly for a number of newer Nissan models.
According to Original Wraps, each of the wraps have a life span of up to three years and will be installed by a professional and can also be taken down easily without the fear of leaving any marks on the car.
Contrary to what others may think - that vinyl wraps are a little tacky - these wraps for Nissan actually look pretty cool. You can even customize your own design according to your personal whim. But if you’re a dude, we highly suggest you stay away from that “Flower Power” design.
The Nissan pickup has never sold all that well here in the United States, but with tough competition from Ford and Chevrolet, it’s easy to see why that is. Nissan has an all-new Titan ready for 2014, but they might have a few changes in store for next year.
The 2011 Titan and Frontier get all-new trim level names, including S, SV, and SL. There will also be 4x4 badging on the truck if the buyer gets the four-wheel drive version. In the comfort department, captain’s chairs will be fitted as standard on the top-level SL trim. The 5.6-liter 317-horsepower V8 will remain.
The trim-level name swap will be on the Frontier as well, but the PRO-4X model will carry over on both trucks. The smaller pickup loses its six-speed manual on the long wheelbase SL King Cab and SV Crew Cab.
Luckily, there is still a six-speed manual available on the lower S trim level and the PRO-4X short wheelbases. The SV adds the Luxury Package and you can even get LATCH child safety seats.
The new Titan for 2011 goes on sale in August and the new six-cylinder Frontier will follow it in September, while four-cylinder Frontiers will go on sale in October.
Nissan officially revealed the details of the 2009 Frontier mid-size pickup, a model that receive numerous refinements for the new model year. The new Frontier is scheduled to arrive at Nissan dealerships nationwide in mid-July 2008.
The 2009 Nissan Frontier, a no-compromise pickup forged with premium hardware, extraordinary power and off-road athleticism, continues to be a leader in the mid-size truck segment. Improving its already impressive packaging, the 2009 Frontier gets updated with a new front fascia, grille and headlight design and new 16-inch and 18-inch wheels.
Additionally, a new PRO-4X off-road model is added, along with new Frontier Crew Cab LE/PRO-4X Value Truck Packages (VTP) that offer an array of popular optional equipment at a greater value than if purchased separately. Other enhancements include a new center radio and HVAC stack (V6 models), new seat cloth for LE models and two new exterior colors – Red Brick and Navy Blue.
The 2009 Frontier will be offered in King Cab and Crew Cab body styles and in 4x2 and 4x4 driveline configurations. Under the hood there will be a 4.0-liter DOHC V6 engine that delivers 261 hp and a peak torque of 281 lb-ft. The Frontier King Cab 4x2 model will use a 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine, with 152 hp and 171 lb-ft.

Nissan announced today pricing for the 2010 Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra. All three models are now on sale.
Prices for the 2010 Nissan Frontier start at $17,540 for the Frontier XE King Cab I4 4x2 with manual transmission and $22,290 for the Frontier SE Crew Cab V6 4x2 with manual transmission. There are a total of 13 available Frontier King Cab and 14 available Frontier Crew Cab models.
Prices for the Pathfinder range from $27,440 for the Pathfinder 4x2 S FE+ with 4.0-liter V6 engine and automatic transmission to $42,160 for the Pathfinder 4x4 LE-V8 with automatic transmission.
The Nissan Xterra has a starting price of $22,450 for the Xterra 4x2 X with 4.0-liter V6 and manual transmission, while the Xterra 4x4 X with V6 and manual transmission is $24,500.

The all-new Nissan Frontier Navara will provide a major boost to the Nissan business in Thailand, a market that is dominated by the one-tone pickup segment. With the Frontier Navara, SNA will achieve 40,000 units in the pickup segment and 55,000 units in total sales in fiscal year 2007.
