When you talk about rare cars, you probably think of high-end Bugattis, Ferraris, Porsches, etc. No one would think of a regular production car to be a rare one, unless it is a vintage. But, surprisingly, many cars are actually quite rare and get lost in the crowd without getting noticed. Unless you have a keen eye or you’re a diehard petrol head, you too may not have noticed them. Doug DeMuro lists nine such rare cars that you might have walked or driven by without giving it a second look.

Mercedes is certainly no stranger to motorsports. The German brand has been at it for the better part of the last 100 years. The company was involved in Grand Prix as early as 1923, with their teardrop-shaped Benz Tropfenwagen and then there was LeMans incident from 1955 where a 300 SLR crash-landed into the stands. Mercedes dominated the FIA GT1 class in the 1990s, but that was followed by some interesting developments with their Mercedes CLR, which apparently acted more like an airplane rather than a car. As a result, it managed to flip, and not just once.

The Mercedes AMG A45S is currently the hottest hatchback you can buy. We already covered how it stretches the definition of a hot hatchback. In fact, the AMG A45S is more of a super hatchback than anything else. Although its 421 horsepower, combined with all-wheel-drive and a quick-shifting DCT makes for a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds, you can’t neglect the steep price tag of $72,752. This begs the question, what are the alternatives? Luckily there are some, and here they are.

Mercedes-Benz came into existence in 1926, when DMG (Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft) - founded by Gottlieb Daimler - merged with Benz & Cie, which was the company started by Carl Benz. That’s when the Mercedes-Benz logo as we know it was created.

Every premium carmaker that has a history and a present in racing likes to translate some of the motorsport knowledge it possesses into a road car. Mercedes-Benz and subsequently Mercedes-AMG have done just that with the GT. Mercedes has finally unveiled the new GLA, and during the presentation, we were treated to a teaser of the Mercedes EQA EV – a model once believed to be an entry-level hatchback. The image was clear enough that we can confirm the EQA will, in fact, be a very small crossover, one that we’ve seen in the prototype form in the past. This raises a big question, though. Why isn’t the production version of the Mercedes EQA going to take after the Concept EQA that was shown off by Mercedes back in 2017, and what happened to the hatchback body style?

Until recently, BMW didn’t offer a righteous rival for the S-Class Coupe. Subsequently, the Mercedes-AMG S63 was ruling the realm without a competitor in sight, but that changed when the M8 was born.

Although the S-Class Coupe/AMG S63 is a shorter, two-door version of the larger S-Class sedan and the M8 was designed as fully-blown coupe right off the bat, it fits nicely into the same ballpark as the juiced-up Mercedes-AMG S63. So in our quest to see which is better, we’re taking a good close look at what they have to offer on paper.

Mercedes is preparing to debut the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class on December 11th, but before the second-generation crossover arrives, the German automaker dropped a new teaser showing the new GLA-Class’ side profile and parts of the rear section.

The familiar design echoes the looks that we’re now familiar with from Mercedes’ new batch of compact cars. The carmaker took a few design liberties in rendering of the GLA-Class — the wheels and tires are abnormally large — but for the most part, the second-generation crossover carries a host of new design features that should make the GLA Class look sportier than in previous forms.

They might share the same engine configuration, but the 2020 Ferrari 812 GTS and the 2020 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet are two very different dishes. One’s naturally aspirated while the other uses the magic of forced induction. One is a purpose-built supercar while the other is the open-top version of one of the most luxurious full-size sedan you can buy today.

But here at Top Speed we have a knack for dissecting things, so we thought an in-depth comparison between the 812 GTS and the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabrio would be equally useful and interesting, even as they come from two different worlds.

It used to be that if you wanted to make a performance car, no matter the body style, it absolutely had to be rear-wheel drive. Nothing else would do. Now, all-wheel drive is becoming more and more popular, especially among the high-powered luxury sleds of Europe, and in response, AMG is looking to ditch rear-wheel drive outright in favor of all-wheel drive exclusively. It’s a bold move, and it will undoubtedly affect rivals like BMW’s division, as well as the segment as a whole.

Tesla is not all though. The EQC will enter the ring against the I-Pace, against the Audi E-tron Quattro, and against the upcoming BMW iX3. That is the playground for the expensive, yet, it seems, highly popular electric SUVs. Can’t even imagine what kind of bloodshed we should expect to see in the near future. Regardless of this, these are the most important facts about the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

Packed in a more compact body even compared to the Nissan Rogue, the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB manages to find a unique point in space among SUVs, where no vehicles like it exist. It is a premium compact SUV - short, not enormous - that packs seven seats inside combined with the well-known Mercedes-Benz luxury and sophistication qualities. To put it clearly - BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, or Lincoln do not have a vehicle that could threaten the existence of the GLB.

Its sole competitors reside in the realm of cheap alternatives. If endowed with the right options, these compact SUVs can be seven-seaters - Land Rover Discovery Sport, Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan Rogue, and VW Tiguan Allspace.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB, however, is the only premium entry in this tight segment - this is how it is better than anyone else.
