The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is part of another recall campaign just a month after issues from its rearview camera were put on notice
by Isaac Atienza, onAre you experiencing trouble with your Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s high beams? Fret not, because Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has issued a recall to remedy this issue. This comes just after a month when the same vehicle was also recalled for issues surrounding its rearview camera.
According to a document from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L models without automatic high beams have a defective master lighting switch that prevents the high beams from activating when the lights are in the auto position.
This is what is stated in the NHTSA’s official document:
When the master lighting switch is set to the auto position, the high beam headlights will not activate unless the master lighting switch is first changed to the 'on" position.
Because of this issue, the recently-launched Jeep Grand Cherokee L does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 S9.4, which states the following:
Each vehicle must have a means of switching between lower and upper beams designed and located so that it may be operated conveniently by a simple movement of the driver’s hand or foot….
According to the NHTSA, a total of 7,082 units that were assembled between December 8, 2020, and August 25, 2021 are affected by this recall. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected owners by December 3, 2021. Unaffected vehicles are either equipped with automatic high beams or were assembled outside this period.
This high beam recall comes just a month after the Jeep Grand Cherokee L was also recalled due to a radio software error that may prevent the rearview camera from activating. A total of 56,180 units are involved in that recall.
